French outlet Jeunes Footeux claim Rennes starLovro Majer has emerged as a target this month for both Tottenham and Manchester United and are preparing a move for the summer window – but he is rated at a huge £50m by Rennes.
Majer, 25, has been in excellent form for Rennes since joining the club in the summer of 2021 from Dinamo Zagreb. Having a hand in 44 goals in 99 games from midfield for Zagreb, it saw him earn a move to one of France’s best sides.
That form has continued. Clocking up 59 appearances since he joined Rennes, Majer has laid on 20 goals and assists. He was part of Croatia’s World Cup squad that finished third place in Qatar, though he was used as a sub more often.
Indeed, hardly to blame given Croatia’s midfield comprises of Luka Modric, Marcelo Brozovic and Mateo Kovacic. Premier League clubs are now looking at him.
The report from Jeunes Footeux reports that clubs are already planning for the summer. Tottenham and Manchester United both have Majer on their summer shortlists. He has a big contract at Ligue 1 Rennes until the summer of 2027.
MAJER EMERGES AS £50M TARGET FOR TOTTENHAM AND MANCHESTER UNITED
Majer is showing huge quality as an attacking midfielder. But with Rennes’ price tag of £50million, they are going to find it difficult to cash in. However, come the summer, they may be more willing to do business with English clubs.
They will have more time to bring in a replacement. United have the likes of Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes and Donny van de Beek when is back from injury. But Majer is exactly the type of player Antonio Conte is currently lacking.
