Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has said that he is really happy with Anthony Martial amid the club’s ongoing search for a new striker in the transfer window.
The Frenchman has endured a tough season due to multiple injuries, but he has still been impressive with five goals and two assists from just 10 appearances in all competitions.
Speaking in his press conference before the Bournemouth game, Ten Hag insisted that he does not want to burn money on a new striker unless he can have an impact.
The Dutch tactician added that he is really happy with how Martial has fared. He believes the 27-year-old has had a huge impact after seven goal contributions in just 510 minutes.
We have (a number nine), Anthony Martial, I’m really happy with his performances across many games. He has had a really good impact. If you see his minutes and the impact he has had it’s been huge.”
Martial has become a new favourite under Ten Hag
Before the World Cup break, Ten Hag was full of praise for Martial and said that he is the perfect striker for him with his hold-up play and high pressing in the final third.
The Frenchman was previously criticised by some fans for his languid playing style, but there has been a definite improvement in his overall work rate under Ten Hag this season.
