Erik ten Hag is a meticulous manager and he probably would have considered how Manchester United would prepare to play Arsenal without Casemiro on Sunday, even before Wednesday night’s game against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Casemiro had picked up four yellow cards prior to the match and the biggest pre-match talking point was whether he would be named on the bench with a view toward the weekend, but those who thought that have not been paying attention.
Ten Hag has preferred to play his strongest possible team, despite a hectic fixture list, this season and it seemed highly unlikely he wold rest the defensive midfielder against Crystal Palace, who represented an opportunity for three points.
The Dutchman was asked about Casemiro being one yellow card about from suspension ahead of the game and he said:
“We are aware of that but it is about today, Sunday is Sunday. Obviously, we don’t want him to get booked, that is clear, but it is about winning tonight. Looking forward to it and great to play here. It is always very loud but that is fine, our players like it.”
The team that started at Selhurst Park was strong enough to put the result beyond doubt after Bruno Fernandes score the opener just before half-time, but the second-half display was poor and the hosts scored a late but deserved equaliser.
