PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo says he is more than ready to make the next step in his career after a stellar start to the season.
The 23-year-old’s performances have been rewarded with a place in the Netherlands’ World Cup and he believes he has the ability to really make a name for himself at a big European club when he leaves PSV:
“I think at the end of this season I will be ready to take that step. I feel like I was already at the beginning of this season, but after this season I’m even more ready to take a step. Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool. It would be an honour to play there, but I also have to see what kind of team I like best.”
The fact that Gakpo mentions United is not a surprise. He revealed in September that the Manchester club had registered an interest in him during the summer but they failed to make a formal bid.
However, with the Red Devils expected to be on the lookout for another forward in January, the Dutchman could well come back into manager Erik ten Hag’s thinking.
Gakpo has scored 13 goals and contributed 17 assists this campaign already, and many clubs are certainly taking note of his performances. He is, though, likely to cost a lot more than he would have been in the summer, with it being claimed that PSV will demand around €50m (£44m) for his services.
