Cristiano Ronaldo leaves Man Utd with immediate effect after Piers Morgan interview

Cristiano Ronaldo has left Manchester United with immediate effect following his controversial interview with Piers Morgan, the club have announced.

The 37-year-old slammed the club in a tell-all interview with Morgan on the eve of the 2022 World Cup. In a statement, United said: “Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect.

“The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future. Everyone at Manchester United remains focused on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and working together to deliver success on the pitch.”

Ronaldo returned to United in 2021, having turned down a move to their City rivals in a shock u-turn, and he got off to the perfect start with two goals in his second debut against Newcastle.

However, his fairytale return soon turned into a nightmare as United struggled, and Ronaldo noticed no difference in the club since he left for Real Madrid over a decade ago. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked, and he replaced by Ralf Rangnick – leading to Ronaldo to tell Morgan he had never even heard of the German.
