Former England striker Alan Shearer has backed Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo to become a “top player” and enjoy a successful World Cup campaign.
The 21-year-old has been in impressive form since making his Seagulls debut in April earlier this year. Caicedo, who was signed from Ecuadorian side Independiente in 2021 for just £4million, performed well under former manager Graham Potter.
Caicedo’s strong showings have led to links with a move away from the American Express Community Stadium, with Manchester United – and several other Premier League sides – thought to be interested in the player.
Shearer has described Caicedo as a “standout player” and backed the young midfielder to impress for Ecuador at the World Cup in Qatar.
Speaking ahead of the opening game of the tournament between Qatar and Ecuador, Shearer said on the BBC’s coverage of the match: “He’s going to be a top player and he could be one that really stands out. He’s only 21 and he’s the heartbeat of this young side.
